The Strength of Our Stories: Finding Light in the Ruins and Bringing the Gold Home

I want to talk about the moments that define us—the ones that don’t just sit in a perfect gallery frame but are woven into the very fabric of who we are.
Last night, standing within the warmth of the House of Lucie in Budapest, I felt a profound sense of "coming home." Holding the PX3 - Paris Photo Prize Gold Medal in my hands wasn't just about professional recognition. It was a testament to the long, winding, and often difficult journey I have traveled as a Hungarian photographer.
When the World Stands Still
My story, much like yours, hasn't been a straight line. At twenty-seven, my world came to a sudden and terrifying halt when I was diagnosed with cervical cancer. In that moment, the future I had imagined seemed to slip through my fingers. But right then and there, I made a choice—with all the faith and hope I could muster—that if I were granted more time, I would treat every single year as a gift.
I made a promise to myself: I would celebrate my 40th birthday surrounded by those who mean the most to me—my family—in the heart of New York City.

The Power of Resilience: “Zero Below, Everything Above”
When we finally reached that milestone, staying at the Millennium Hilton in Lower Manhattan, I found myself staring at the Oculus. I saw more than an architectural marvel; I saw a mirror of my own life.
The Oculus rose from the ruins of 9/11—a place of unimaginable loss—to become a soaring symbol of hope and defiant beauty. This is the essence of my award-winning work, “Zero Below, Everything Above.” It reflects a profound truth: while there may be "zero" or pain in our depths, there is an infinite capacity for light and freedom in our heights. It is an architectural masterpiece, yet to me, it felt like a living, breathing soul.

Bringing the Gold Home
Though this journey was recognized in Paris, my heart told me the most meaningful place to accept this honor was here, in my homeland. Due to a recent surgery, I couldn't make it to the gala in France, but I believe the universe had a different plan. Receiving this Gold Medal here in Budapest allowed me to share this victory with the community that shaped me.
As a Hungarian artist, I am reminded that our roots give us the strength to reach the stars.
Join the Journey
I invite you to come and see these stories for yourself. Our scars are not signs of weakness; they are the maps of our triumphs.
Now on Display: House of Lucie Budapest (until February 12th).
The Journey Continues: Next stops include Ostuni, Italy, and Athens, Greece.
Collector's Note: Limited edition prints of the Oculus series are available for those who wish to own a piece of this resilient vision via Saatchi Art.
Thank you for allowing me to share my light with you. Let’s keep rising together.
