The Strength of Our Stories: Finding Light in the Ruins and Bringing the Gold Home

Let’s talk about the moments that define us—the ones that don’t show up in a perfect gallery frame, but are etched into the very fabric of who we are.

Last night, standing within the warm embrace of the House of Lucie in Budapest, I felt a profound sense of "becoming." Holding the PX3 - Paris Photo Prize Gold Medal wasn't just about professional recognition for me. It was a testament to the long, winding, and often difficult journey I’ve traveled as a Hungarian photographer.

When the World Stops

My story, like yours, hasn't always been a straight line. At twenty-seven, my world came to a sudden, terrifying halt with a diagnosis of cervical cancer. In that moment, the future I had imagined felt like it was slipping through my fingers. But I decided then—with all the grit and hope I could muster—that if I were given more time, I would treat every single year as a gift.

I made a promise to myself: I would celebrate my 40th birthday surrounded by the people who mean the most to me—my family—in the heart of New York City.

The Power of Resilience: "Zero Below, Everything Above"

When we finally reached that milestone in Lower Manhattan, staying at the Millennium Hilton, I found myself staring at the Oculus. I saw more than just an architectural marvel; I saw a mirror of my own life.

The Oculus rose from the ruins of 9/11—a place of unimaginable loss—to become a soaring symbol of hope and defiant beauty. That is the heart of my award-winning work, “Zero Below, Everything Above.” It reflects the reality that while there may be "zero" or pain in our depths, there is an infinite capacity for light and freedom in our heights.

Bringing the Gold Home

While this journey began in Paris, my heart told me that the most meaningful place to receive this honor was right here, on home soil. Because of a recent surgery, I couldn't make it to the gala in France, but I believe the universe had a different plan. Receiving this gold medal in Budapest at the House of Lucie allowed me to share this victory with the community that shaped me.

As a Hungarian artist, I am reminded that our roots give us the strength to reach for the stars.

Join the Journey

I invite you to come and see these stories for yourself. Our scars are not signs of weakness; they are the maps of our triumphs.

Now Showing: House of Lucie Budapest (until February 12th).

The Journey Continues: Next stops are Ostuni, Italy, and Athens, Greece.

Thank you for allowing me to share my light with you. Let’s keep rising, together.
